Zardozi decorations origin:

Zardozi literally translates as “zar” meaning gold and “dozi” meaning embroidery using metal-bound threads originally using precious metals. It is one of the most famous and elaborate techniques in metal embroidery and is recognised as one of the ancient handicrafts by the government of India. We are proud of our long-standing relationships with our skilled artisan craft communities and homeworkers. We value the specialist skills and traditional crafts, and depend upon them to help create our unique, high quality, handcrafted products.

Our manufacturing process beings with an original piece of artwork which is transferred into a hand drawn stencil which forms the embroidery template. Following historical tradition the fabric is stretched and tied onto a wooden embroidery frame and the design is then marked out in chalk. Thread type, colour and embellishments are expertly selected to blend and contour the design.

We do not use animal products or feathers in our products. Our team leaders ensure the smooth running of our production cycle, keeping clear records relating to the number of pieces completed and payments made.  Every effort is made to provide a safe and hygienic working environment in the units and where necessary we strive to assist homeworkers in achieving good sanitation as set out in the ETI Base Code.

Doing our bit to be green:

  • The zari / bullion wires used to embroider are copper and/or brass and are 100% recycled. The metallic zari thread is consumed in total and any small end cuts are sent for recycling.
  • The foam sheets for padding our decorations are actually factory surplus or end cuts. This helps in minimising the wastage and dumping of end cuts left unused in the upholstery industry.
  • We source all our materials from registered local mills and markets, thus further supporting the local economy and community.
  • Our shipping boxes are made from recycled paper and are lined with craft paper for durability and strength. These boxes     are 100% recyclable. As standard our decorations have an uncoated recyclable paper label attached printed with ‘not a child’s toy’.
